Multisite Movement Trends to Watch

Today we want to share a conversation we had with Jim Tomberlin from Multisite Solutions about the multisite movement. Since this movement began in the mid-1990s, more than 5,000 churches have embraced the multisite model — and their number is growing daily. Outreach Magazine declared in 2007 that the multisite model is no longer a trend, but “the new normal.”

By 2014, an estimated 5 million people — 10 percent of Protestant churchgoers — were attending a multisite church on any given weekend across North America ... and it’s spreading internationally.

Multisite Solutions helps churches successfully navigate the transition to a multisite model, as well as mergers and movements. Watch the video to see Jim talk about what is happening in multisite churches today.

Multisite Movement Trends to Watch

Here are a few of my favorite takeaways from my interview with Jim:

  1. Bake in ‘reproduction’ at every level. A healthy multisite vision includes ways to grow from the start.
  2. Grow a church locally by adding, but grow a movement by multiplying. ‘Release and send’ is the key.
  3. A growing multisite model takes continual restructuring and evaluation. Stagnancy is not an option.
  4. Microsite churches are ‘movement churches’. They are able to grow a multisite model in the future cheaper, faster, and further.

Moving to a multisite model takes a clear vision and strategy from the start.

If you’re considering implementing this model, is each of your ministries adopting a ‘reproductive’ attitude?
